I just found the online version of a lively radio program on NPR, called “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me.” It’s a weekly broadcast quiz show. The host makes current news entertaining, maybe even funny. What if students were listening to this regularly?

Here’s my attempt at teaching current events through this cool resource.

The easy assignment: Listen to “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me” then turn in a summary of 3 major news items referenced in the quiz show.

The harder assignment: Listen to the quiz show then write three quiz questions of your own that could have been on the show this week. (It requires students to think about what’s topical and write in a style like the show’s.)
